Does anyone know where you can take the Radiotelephone Operator's Restricted Certificate (aeronautical) exam?

I cant find any information as to examination locations or methods on the Industry Canada website. I do have the exam-prep documentation.

Hi Blake;

Many flight schools themselves are authorized to invigilate the exam, usually for free for their own students.

I did my written right at my own flight school. The results are mailed to Industry Canada, and your certificate arrives in a week or three.

Commonly they are written at the same time as the PSTAR exam, although you can write the PSTAR and the radio licence at seperate times if you prefer. Since both are fairly easy tests that can be accomplished quickly with adequate study, most students prefer to do them at the same time.

I did mine at the same time, and both tests (the PSTAR and the radio licence) took me under 1 hour.

Either way, make sure once you start training you take the tests at your earliest convenience so you have your radio licence in hand early on - it is one of the legally required documents you must carry onboard for your solo.

Yup, thats the plan. I was thinking of trying to get my radio licence even before I officially start training. Thanks

Once you signup for groundschool at whatever training facility you decide to go with, Blake, I'm sure that they would let you write the radio licence right away at no cost.

However, if there is any doubt in their minds that you won't become a paying student, they may want to charge you for administering the test, so I'd hold off untill you are firmly established somewhere.

Up untill your solo, you don't need the licence anyways as your instructor is the PIC. He/she will likely (Should) have you making radio calls regardless, but you can legally do so without your radio licence at that point since you are a student, and not the PIC.

In other words, once you start training make sure to get the radio licence and PSTAR out of the way quickly, but untill then there is really no pressing rush for either.

Then again, Blake, having been following your blog, I know you are going to be a very enthusiastic student, so I understand why you want to get ahead with these things.

C152. But not just any 152, it's the limited edition "DT" series.

(That's "DT" for "duct tape") I fly whatever is cheapest.
