Classification System? 4 Months ago Karma: 0
Hi guys, hope everyone is doing well. Since nothing new seems to be happening on the application front, I decided to start a new thread to get some insight on the whole pay / classification system that Nav Canada uses. Since the CATCA site has changed, some of the older documents have disappeared and I am unable to find any documents pertaining to the classification of the different work environments within Nav Canada for controllers. In the latest collective agreement there can be seen a page referring to annual pay divided into 8 rows and 11 columns.

My understanding is that the 11 columns represent the next 11 years in terms of annual raise as of the current agreement, however, what I am unable to figure are the rows. ATC 00, ATC 01 etc. I have figured ATC 00 must mean the salary during the training phase and that ATC 01 - 07 represents different work locations, but where can one find which work location exactly is which number?

Those in the know please share. Thanks.

P.S: I am specifically interested in the Vancouver area information (Tower, Harbor, ACC, Boundary Bay, Langley, Abbotsford, Pitt)

You're correct. There are then years' worth of raises on the pay scale (your starting pay, then one raise each year until you reach the highest increment), and you're also correct about the ATC01-07 regarding the pay grade for each facility. How the grade is determined includes a lot of factors which, simplified, cover traffic volume and mix as well as complexity. As for a list of who gets what, I don't know who has that. I don't recall that ever being published since it's a variable item as opposed to a contractual item as far as which pay grade a unit is in. Sorry I can't help more.

Thanks for that . I believe the system is mentioned in this "NAV CANADA/CATCA Classification System Document dated September 7, 2005." however it is nowhere to be found. This would actually help everyone know what the exact expected salary would be. O well, time to get into training first haha ! Thanks again.
