AIR CANADA TO EXPAND SERVICE TO MEXICO CITY

MONTREAL, Aug. 31 2010 - Air Canada today announced that beginning in November it will increase service between Mexico City and Canada with the resumption of daily flights to and from Montreal and the introduction of a new flight to and from Vancouver. Twice daily flights between Toronto and Mexico City will also continue year round.

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA INVESTS IN SAFETY UPGRADES OF FIVE QUEBEC AIRPORTS

MONT-JOLI, QC, - Today, Daniel Petit, Member of Parliament for Charlesbourg—Haute-Saint-Charles, on behalf of the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, announced that airports in Quebec will again benefit from a Government of Canada investment in important safety upgrades. This investment is part of the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

CANADA‘S FIRST EAA FLY-IN!

Mark your calendars for the first Canadian National EAA Fly-in! September 17 through 19. Canadians will have the opportunity to take part in the inaugural EAA fly-in in the Nation's Capital. September 18 is Vintage Wings of Canada‘s Victoria Cross Airshow. This yearly event draws hundreds of aircraft and spectators. This year will feature, among other aircraft, their Goodyear FG-1D Corsair in honour of the Victoria Cross posthumous recipient, Lt.Robert Hampton Gray. This date also coincides with the Battle of Britain celebration held at Rockcliffe on September 19. Flying aircraft will include the ”Merlins‘; Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum‘s Lancaster, Spitfires, Hurricanes, and perhaps Russell‘s Bf 109 Messerschmitt.

Media not invited to float plane safety workshop

Fifty-five float plane operators from around British Columbia have been invited by Transport Canada to attend a two-day workshop in Vancouver to brainstorm ways to make the industry safer. Issues such as egress techniques, protection of passengers, customers’ expectations, safety culture and safety records will be discussed. But, media will not be invited.

Hundreds turn out for Toonie Walk and Run

17 WING WINNIPEG, Man-“Perfect weather and a great turnout equals lots of support for the Government of Canada Workplace Charitable Campaign (GCWCC),” said Erin Patton, Personnel Support Program (PSP) Fitness Instructor and event organizer of the 2010 Toonie Walk and Run at 17 Wing Winnipeg.

The GCWCC Toonie Walk and Run, which took place on a sunny but cool Tuesday, 25 August 2010 was a success as 439 people paid their Toonie to participate in either the 5 kilometre (km) run or the 3 km walk. In total $878 was raised towards the Wings goal of $125,000 for this years GCWCC.

Our Governments Failing to Promote Canadian Aerospace!

Montréal, QC – Members of The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers took to the streets of Montréal last week to protest the lack of support for Canada’s aerospace industry by federal and provincial governments.

The focal point of the protest was the Mexico Now aerospace symposium at the Marriot Hotel in Dorval, sponsored by the Mexican government. “This symposium is a clear example of what’s wrong in our industry today,” explained IAMAW District 11 Directing Business Representative Dave Chartrand. “While Mexico comes into our backyard to promote its own aerospace industry - inviting Canadian aerospace firms to move their facilities south of the border – our governments sit of their hands and do nothing.”

GOVERNMENT OF CANADA INVESTS IN SAFETY UPGRADES FOR SAINT-HUBERT AIRPORT

OTTAWA Daniel Petit, Member of Parliament for Charlesbourg—Haute-Saint-Charles, on behalf of the Honourable Chuck Strahl, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, announced that the Saint-Hubert Airport will benefit from a Government of Canada investment in important safety upgrades. MP Petit announced the investment of $664,050 to replace a runway sweeper and purchase a self-propelled snow blower at the airport as part of the Airports Capital Assistance Program (ACAP).

Porter Airlines Flight 387 statement

TORONTO, Aug. 27 2010- A potential security issue developed as Porter Flight 387 was preparing for departure from Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport at approximately 12 p.m., to Chicago-Midway Airport. Thirty passengers and four crew members were onboard the 70-seat aircraft.

Proposed Airport Cuts Threaten Security Screening Delays

Pending job cuts at Atlantic Canada airports threaten to exacerbate problems with security screening and fly in the face of official reports on airport security, the United Steelworkers (USW) union warns.

“A report this week from the Canadian Air Transport Security Authority acknowledges there is a major problem with recruiting and retaining screeners and security workers at Canadian airports, leading to lengthy delays in obtaining security clearances,” said Lawrence E. McKay, USW Area Coordinator in Atlantic Canada.
