Ryanair, Europe’s favourite airline, was notified this morning (12 Feb) at a State of Play meeting with the EU Commission, that the EU Commission intends to prohibit Ryanair’s offer for Aer Lingus, despite the fact that Ryanair has met every competition concern raised in the EU’s Statement of Objections and during the review process, including providing the EU – at its request – with irrevocable commitments from not one, but two, upfront buyers to eliminate all competitive overlaps between Ryanair and Aer Lingus.

Founded over sixty years ago, the Airbus Lycée is one of the rare Company Technical Colleges that still exist in France. Each year it trains around 360 young people for four trades in the aeronautical sector. This training consists of Bac Pro (vocational Baccalaureate) diplomas prepared over three years – in a school context for the first two years and then with apprentice status for the last year.

The Airbus A350 XWB programme has achieved yet another important milestone with the European Aviation Safety Agency’s (EASA) award of the Engine Type Certification of the Rolls-Royce Trent XWB turbofan. EASA presented the certificate to Rolls-Royce at EASA’s headquarters in Cologne, Germany.

airberlin has connected Berlin to the Hungarian capital Budapest for the last year. On 6th February 2012, airberlin first started a daily connection to Budapest. After the first increase in frequency in May 2012, the airline is offering two daily flights to Budapest in this year’s summer schedule.

Air France is organizing a collection of old ground staff and crew uniforms at Paris-Orly and Paris-Charles de Gaulle airports. This new eco-friendly operation began on 21 January and runs until 15 March 2013. The uniforms collected from most of these staff concerned will then be recycled into car insulation at a specialized recycling plant.

Two Lufthansa Airbus A340-300s are taking part in a very special mission as part of a trial scheduled to run until summer 2013. Eight 10 x 10 cm test patches have been placed on the fuselage and leading edge of the wings of each Airbus as part of the Multifunctional Coating research project.
