airberlin has strategically revised its route network for 2013. The airline’s hubs in Berlin and Dusseldorf are being strengthened, the schedule is being organised more efficiently and tailored to meet the needs of strategic key markets.

Sanad Aero Solutions GMBH (Sanad), Mubadala Aerospace’s spare engine and component financing and leasing solutions company, has expanded its long-term engine leasing relationship with airberlin, with the addition of three new CFM-56 engines under a sale and lease back agreement to its existing portfolio of eleven spare engines.

The 16th March is National Astronomy Day in Germany and airberlin flight AB1000 will be setting off on a very special mission: on this day the two-hour observation flight will offer a particularly good view of the Panstarrs comet.

airberlin, Europe’s seventh largest airline, and Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, today signed a historic codeshare agreement allowing customers from each of the two carriers to fly seamlessly between Abu Dhabi, Germany, and Seychelles.

airberlin has connected Berlin to the Hungarian capital Budapest for the last year. On 6th February 2012, airberlin first started a daily connection to Budapest. After the first increase in frequency in May 2012, the airline is offering two daily flights to Budapest in this year’s summer schedule.

airberlin is now the first German airline in Salzburg to use satellite-based precision approaches with its Boeing fleet in accordance with the RNP-AR procedure, thereby further developing its technical leadership role. Since January 2012, airberlin has been using the RNP-AR procedures for approaches and take-offs in Innsbruck.

On 15th January 2012 at 21:35, an airberlin Airbus A330-200 set off for the first time from Berlin to Abu Dhabi, the hub of the airline's strategic partner Etihad Airways.

Today airberlin began to implement its "Turbine" turnaround programme. This is a comprehensive scheme to ensure that Germany's second largest airline focuses on its key markets on the basis of a stringent business model.

In 2012, airberlin increased its capacity utilization rate by 1.6 percentage points over the previous year, to 79.80 percent, and was therefore able to welcome more guests on board per flight.
