The Ceremonial Annual Review at the Oakville Arena, 133 Rebecca Street will precede the reception and banquet. Former squadron members and families are welcome to participate and share their memories.
Named after the world famous Golden Hawks precision flight team of the Canadian Air Force, 540 Golden Hawks Squadron in Oakville is enjoying a resurgence in popularity nearly doubling in size this year to over 115 cadets. In addition to meeting weekly at T.A. Blakelock High School, the cadets enjoy many activities including wilderness training, field exercises, a marching band and much more. Coached and supervised by officers of the Canadian Forces Reserve, cadets progress through stages of increasing responsibilities and leadership.
“With such a stellar base and dedicated staff, we are excited that our Squadron Sponsoring Committee is hosting our 60th Anniversary Celebration, recognizing sixty years of cadet excellence in Oakville,” announced Commanding Officer Denise Ohanian-May. “Former cadets, staff and 540’s extended squadron community are invited to join in the Golden Hawks celebrations May 27th and help honour 540’s history, possibly sharing significant stories, memorabilia and pictures from their cadet experiences,” she added. Registration for the banquet may be done at T.A. Blakelock High School from 6:15pm to 9:15pm, Tuesday evenings only or on line at www.540goldenhawks.ca
The Royal Canadian Air Cadets program is a unique partnership between the Department of National Defence (DND), a division of the Canadian Forces, and the Air Cadet League of Canada.
At the community level, 540 Squadron is sponsored by the Golden Hawks Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) a not-for-profit organization of parent volunteers, that support the Commanding Officer in running the squadron. The SSC handles the finances for the squadron and facilitates the operation of squadron activities and programs that are not fully funded by DND, such as venue rentals, transportation and music program.
