Air Canada's direct flight from St. John's to London was a key topic as President and CEO Calin Rovinescu addressed the St. John's Board of Trade. Rovinescu says Air Canada resumed its St. John's-London service last week because of Newfoundland and Labrador's robust economy. Poor weather has grounded search crews in Eastern Labrador this morning. They remain in a holding pattern waiting for clearing conditions to continue the search for a small plane missing with two people on board. The search was suspended last night because of bad weather. Joint Task Force Atlantic spokesman Major James Simana says the missing aircraft called the airstrip in Cartwright around 10:30 a.m. yesterday to confirm arrival but never showed up. The twin-engine…

The town of St. Anthony is moving forward with its efforts to keep its air ambulance. In March, the provincial government announced it was moving the ambulance service to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, which is set to happen on May 30. St. Anthony Mayor Ernest Simms says they have hired lawyer Jim Bennett to try to stop the move. The initial hearing is scheduled for Friday.

St. John's International Airport may be getting one of those new total body scanners in the near future. The Airport Authority held its annual meeting last night. A worker with CATSA, the ones in charge of airport security, said St. John's will be one of the airports with the scanners. Premier Danny Williams will not be meeting with any delegations concerning air ambulance service. The province is under fire for plans to move the service from St. Anthony to Happy Valley-Goose Bay, a move which some in St. Anthony say could cost them their airport.
