Thirty members of 191 Construction Engineer Flight (191 CEF) are wrapping up their part of a construction project undertaken by Vancouver Island North Habitat for Humanity.  Once the six-home construction project is complete on Piercy Avenue in Courtenay, B.C., it will house deserving families in the Comox Valley.

RCAF assists Environment Canada Arctic project

The frigid waters in Canada’s Arctic have historically been locked in ice nearly year-round, making them virtually inaccessible to even the toughest ships.  But this is changing.  Sea ice cover is declining and with increased attention to the North, marine traffic is on the rise.

Master Corporal Maxime Lahaye-Lemay was awarded the prestigious Search and Rescue Technician of the Year Award on September 21 at the 2012 National SAREX in Val d’Or, Que.

A CP-140 Aurora long-range patrol aircraft and its Canadian crew from 407 Long Range Patrol Squadron returned home to 19 Wing Comox, B.C., on Friday from Hakodate, Japan, where they were stationed to help enforce the United Nations ban on high seas driftnets.

For the first time, a Royal Canadian Air Force officer has won the Canadian Forces’ top marksman award twice in a row.

RCAF Capt. Ken Barling, NORAD headquarters air combat systems officer, was awarded the Queen’s Medal for Champion Shot for the second year in a row at this year’s Canadian Forces Small Arms Concentration competition held Sept. 9 - 22 at Connaught Range in Ottawa, Ontario.

Belgian citizens honour wartime RCAF crew

Members of the Royal Canadian Air Force from 405 Long Range Patrol Squadron, 14 Wing Greenwood, N.S., and Fred Davies, a veteran of the Second World War, gathered in Belgium on September 15 to remember the crew of a Halifax bomber that was shot down in 1943.

Last month, Warrant Officer Melvin Wiseman of 22 Wing North Bay, Ont., was awarded a Canadian Expeditionary Force Command Commander’s Commendation for his service in Afghanistan.
