What a way to end an RCAF career!

Most Canadians who retire after 36 years of service to their employer might be given a gold watch, a celebratory lunch or some other kind of token of appreciation. Lieutenant-General André Deschamps, the outgoing commander of the Royal Canadian Air Force, received something a little more unusual than that. He went flying with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds at the Wings over Gatineau air show in Gatineau, Que.

“Huskies” receive commendation

“I congratulate both military and civilian members of 437 Squadron for their professionalism and dedication,” said Royal Canadian Air Force commander, Lieutenant-General André Deschamps, as he conferred the Canadian Forces Unit Commendation on the men and women of 437 Transport Squadron, 8 Wing Trenton, Ont., on September 13 under sunny blue skies.

A passenger on board a tourist sightseeing boat was evacuated from Orford Bay, B.C. to hospital by an RCAF Cormorant helicopter, Thursday afternoon, after she sustained injuries in a fall while the boat was at sea.

Battle of Britain remembered in Barrie

"They fought day and night with relentless determination... and they had very little time to grieve the losses before taking to the skies again," said Lieutenant-Colonel Peter Earle, referring to Churchill's famous "Few" during an address to a group of Veterans, Air Cadets, and staff and students from 16 Wing Borden and 400 Tactical Helicopter Squadron.

SAREX 2012 Launches in Val-d’Or, Quebec

The Canadian Forces launched its annual national Search and Rescue exercise (SAREX) in Val-d’Or, Quebec Sunday. The exercise will continue until September 22.

A hiker suffering a lower leg injury was hoisted to safety after  Search and Rescue crews from Lions Bay, B.C. and an RCAF Cormorant helicopter teamed up early Sunday morning, September 16th.

On Sunday, September 16, 2012, the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) will mark the 72nd anniversary of the Battle of Britain with a memorial ceremony, parade and fly-past of vintage and current RCAF aircraft. The public is invited to attend the event from 10:15 a.m. to noon at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum in Ottawa.
